Five MBAs with experience in fashion, marketing and operations have joined forces with Source4Style.

This past week I headed north to meet up with some of our Academic Associates at the Johnson School of Business Management at Cornell University, my old Alma mater. We’re proud to announce that a dynamic group of five MBAs – Hala, Xueli, Mona, Lisamarie and John – as well as their Advisor, Zach Shulman (Director, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute) have assembled together to work on two different emerging business opportunities for the Source4Style platform – one specifically designed to aid independent designers in meeting supplier minimums and the second one focused on facilitating business along the supply chain for the industry at large. We’ll have a full report of our findings in Q1 of next year and hope to implement some of our findings within the next 4-6 months. Stay tuned for more updates. ~ Summer Rayne Oakes

Source4Style checks in from London

October 5, 2010

Source4Style not only announces their Public Beta launch but also their sustainable design workshops in SF, NYC, and London.

10.5.10 Report: Clearly the biggest news right now (if you haven’t noticed) is the fact that Source4Style went live in Public Beta today<!>

It’s been quite a whirlwind and our team will have to have a celebratory meal in a week or so because we are all hailing in different parts of the globe right now, which is appropriate considering that we’re a site connecting designers from all over the world with sustainable suppliers from all over the world.

Benita and I have been busy in London. We got to announce the launch of Source4Style today at the Made-By annual event held at the House of Lords (The Parliament) and tomorrow we showcase our new site at the RITE Conference. Adam and Elizabeth have been working into the wee hours of the night in our office in Brooklyn uploading products, checking and re-checking supplier minimums, and basically fielding the calls and emails; and Dave (San Francisco Bay Area) and Max (Montreal) have literally been slaving away (Dave with 5 o’clock shadow chowing down on a Snickers bar; Max in his teddy bear nighties) working on getting the in-site messaging and search to work as good as possible.

We have lots of new features and materials coming in the weeks following – as well as the announcement of Source4Style Atelier, our experiential sustainable design workshops in San Francisco, New York and London. Find out more on how to register here.

Source4Style is now live!

October 5, 2010

After five months in private beta, Source4Style, the premier B2B online marketplace that connects designers to sustainable suppliers across the globe, goes live in Public Beta.

source4style-home

NEW YORK, NY. October 5, 2010. Source4Style, a B2B online marketplace that allows fashion and interior designers to search and purchase sustainable materials from around the globe launched today in Public Beta.

The sourcing platform, founded by model and sustainability strategist Summer Rayne Oakes and fair trade entrepreneur Benita Singh seeks to connect designers to more sustainable sources around the world. Currently the site hosts over 30 suppliers and over 1000 materials, such as organic cottons, hand-woven silks, reclaimed textiles, and other novel fabrics and materials.

“This is truly an exciting time for us,” says Oakes. “Our early market research revealed that designers have difficulty accessing information on sustainable materials and spend more time researching than designing, so a site like Source4Style is incredibly valuable in order to move sustainable design forward.” Source4Style’s aim is to reduce the amount of time and money that designers and retail sourcing specialists currently spend looking to source and purchase quality raw materials. For sustainable suppliers, Source4Style will provide a unique opportunity to display their stories and product offerings in a clear and concise way to a range of interested buyers.

Source4Style will service independent fashion and interior designers as well as small- to mid-size retail sourcing teams. “By allowing designers to source swatches and yardage at the click of a button, Source4Style will make sustainable design the norm. We basically give brands no reason to source another way,” says co-founder Singh.

Source4Style previews today at the Made-By Annual event at the House of Lords as well as the RITE Conference in Westminster tomorrow. The new company will also feature sustainable design workshops called The Source4Style Atelier, which will launch in San Francisco on October 15; New York on October 21; and London on November 5.

Registration to search and source on the site is free.
